The BlackStar Film Festival

Naturally when I decide to go on vacation, that is when an amazing event like the The BlackStar Film Festival comes to town, showing a number of film shorts produced by people of color.

"The BlackStar Film Festival will take place August 2-5, 2012 in Philadelphia. Its mission is to celebrate the visual and storytelling traditions of the African diaspora and to showcase film and video works by and about black people from across the globe."

Please come out and support!

Adidas Originals 2013 Spring-Summer Collection

Designer Jeremy Scott collaborated with Adidas to create these strange and bizarre sneakers.

These might be too much to wear on the street but good for performing on stage, right?

More Kaya

This was a shot from our last shoot that Kaya wanted to post on her blog first (scooping my own photo!). I actually forgot to post it on my own blog. I loved the purple colors of her scarf and pants on her black shirt and her feminine pose.

Sophia Domeville - Abstract Artist

Friend and infrequent muse, Kharma invited me to her sorority sister Sophia Domeville's  art show last month. Her style is abstarct and I saw some different things in her work than other people. I loved the blended colors and the feeling of motion in her work.

I'm glad I went because Kharma is always unpredictable and is a lot of fun. I laughed at how junky her car was, but it still had 3 technological devices operating at the same time; her ipod, her GPS and Motorola Tablet I we were playing word games on.

More Kate!

I never posted some more of the edits I did with Kate from past May.

Some of the critique I received was that the photos weren't that interesting. I liked the work I did, but could it be better? Of course. I'm always looking to get better, so I'm going to have to study and work on it.

Maybe with more dramatic make up, or maybe with lighting changes. Any suggestions?

My Lens: Andrea Powell

I became so busy in June that I didn't post about one of my shoots. I'm just so happy that its summer and I'm feeling better!

Anyway, I met Andrea last year at the Scripted Designs Couture De Passe Fashion Show (I can't believe I didn't blog about that!). I thought of a concept that might work for her young, cute, girl-next-door look.

I wanted a kind of "lookbook" theme, posing and walking down the street. I presented it to her and she agreed. I only wish I could have shot more outfits, but we could only do so much on-location.

I drove a thousand miles to reach her in Doylestown and we patrolled their "downtown" area and found some interesting places, like this museum/library, and shot.

It was funny, meeting for the first time and shooting. I tried to talk, but not too much, to ease any nervous feelings she may have had. I had my trusty shoot drawings to help guide her through my ideas.
