Music: The Internet

When I find new music I like I get so excited!

I everything is so "me-too" on the radio, same producers making the same sounding songs, that when I can hear something new to my ears, it its literally orgasmic.

such a thing happened a few months ago when I was up watching Carson Daly and he featured this group called The Internet, which was an r&b offshoot of the rap collective Odd Future made up of female Syd Tha Kid and Matt Martians. I just knew she was gonna rap, but she started singing and the sound that came out of her mouth I couldn't believe; soft, breathy vocals, plus real instrumentation and production, not just beat making. The sounds are in the vein of N.E.R.D, Dilla, Amel Larrieux,

I haven't been this excited since I found Robert Glasper.

I'm actually on the late bus today because the song I just heard called Give it Time is from 2012. No album for nothin. I love it. You will too.

Lianne La Havas

Andrea just introduced me to a new artist she was listening to named Lianne La Havas. I believe shes from London. So pretty! I enjoyed looking (and listening) to this video for her song No Room For Doubt

Its easy to lump her into the Corrinne Bailey Rae category, especially since they're both slender, light skinned, "artsy-looking" girls who don't sing traditional r&b. I don't know how to classify her sound but I know I like it.

Sundae at the Piazza

I am so glad that Andrea sent me an invite to this event. I've seen the new apartment complex and I wish I could live there. Northern Liberties seems to be where many artistic things are developing; galleries, studios, and the type of people who create them

This was just what I needed:

A sunny day
Free Parking
?uestlove on the turntables playing amazing old and new house music
Pretty ladies.

The vibe was cool, friends, family and children of all races playing and partying together. Hula Hoops abound.

Yahmean and ?uest

You always know you're in the right place when the Noize Tripp Fellas show up...

...and meeting Geneka from BK and Andrea.

I met writer, producer, and photographer Summer Lott

...And then watched Game 3 of the Finals on the big screen!

Back 2 Basics

I've been on a house music kick lately. I had to satisfy my urge to it really loud, so last week I went to Silk City for the back2basics night, one of the only places I can hear good house music, without me having to play it.

I picked a good night; Ant (NoizeTrip) was there promoting his party. Ursula Rucker, poetess supreme, was there. Rich Medina from the IIllvibe Collective (one of the few people who play house I like) was trippin (in a good way), and was about 7 feet tall. ?uestlove showed up & got on the drums with the band. I didn't even recognize Bilal . until I heard his vocals later during the bands' set!

With all these surprise guests-slash-legends, it was a pretty good for a Monday night.
